Synopsis:

Trauma-informed care has become an increasingly credited model for best, holistic practices across disciplines. In this highly experiential and diverse course we not only hope to guide practitioners in providing trauma-sensitive care, but further hope to create safe and informed environments and practices for the practitioners themselves. We seek to explore causes of trauma, underlying physiological responses, expressions of trauma, environmental considerations, physical embodiment exercises, recommended treatment modalities, and interpersonal considerations. Our course instructors present with a varied background of somatic leadership, massage education, psychiatric medicine, psycho-therapeutic frameworks, alternative modalities, mind-body work and community trauma resilience training and leadership.

Full course description:

The social, mental and physical byproducts of trauma have become increasingly recognized as epidemic with more people than ever seeking relief through both conventional and alternative methods. Trauma, loss, and the challenges of daily life can create constriction and loss of connection in the physical and emotional body. The physical toll of trauma reveals itself in the body through tension, pain, misalignment, discomfort and anxiety. In this course, we will look at the science behind the trauma response, exploring what is happening in the brain as well as function of conventional treatments. We will explore emotional anatomy, including how the body is shaped by our thoughts, feelings and beliefs, and discuss how mindfulness practices can help free us from negative thought patterns. We will incorporate movement and grounding body-centered practices can help support a distressed emotional body system. You will learn simple body-centered practices to help people feel more alive, connected and embodied through breath, massage and compassionate presence. Through these embodied practices you will discover the body’s innate ability to re-calibrate, reset and restore to its natural flow, beyond trauma. This hands-on and highly experiential class is intended for the healthcare and bodywork practitioner to support clients in the healing of traumatic after-effects, however, this training is open to everyone interested in empowering massage and bodywork tools to help feel more vital in everyday life.

Lymph massage is a gentle hands-on technique that is easy on the practitioner’s body – yet has very powerful healing ability to decongest tissues, free stagnation, improve immune function and restore health.

This is a continuation of the basic training – Lymph Massage: Protocol for Detoxification and Minor Pathologies – although it is open to everyone whether you have taken the first training or not. In this three-day highly hands-on training, we focus on working with cancer patients as a way to restore the efficiency of the lymphatic system and boost the immune function. You will learn about interrupted pathways of the lymphatic system and how lymphedema develops, both primary and secondary.

You will learn a specific protocol on how to work with a compromised system after breast, ovarian, prostate and other cancers and how to navigate different pathways to relieve patients of edematous tissues.   We will address issues of lymph node removal, radiation and trauma and how to bypass the non-existent lymph nodes or damaged tissue to help restore efficient lymphatic flow. You will leave this training with a comprehensive understanding of how to work with the pathways of the lymph system after cancer treatment while bringing skilled, compassionate care to your clients.
